I checked on the Internet for units and I only found that Sony made a unit that I was looking for, the Sony DNF-430 ATRAC CD Walkman Portable Compact Disc Player with AM/FM/TV/Weather Digital Tuner. I highly recommend this unit. My wife wanted a portable MP3 player with radio capabilities to use when we go fishing. Everything works great and it was a bargain to get.
I liked the device's quality of sound very much, but the controls were too small to work easily and, eventually, the device failed to call up one of its own programs. Once the device comes back and I have a chance to explore its functioning, I'll provide another report. I have already written an interim report on this item, which I was obliged to send---at my own expense---to Sony's Texas repair facility, on the telephone advice of one of Sony's tech support persons. Sony tech support was unable to help, and advised sending it off to Texas---which I did, and am still waiting for its return plus any comments from that facility on why the device wouldn't call up one of its own programs.
No doubt it is the best one of similar products. It is possible to adjust sound effect by applying preset or user defined equilizers.
If you are a radio maniac, be prepared not be bothered by the background noise which you can do nothing about it. The 4 in 1 radio is really great.
Have own the player for some months, two disavantages annoy me: no backlight for LCD on the player. It is can not be ignored if a hi-end headphone is used.If you love enjoying CD replay, choose it.
It is a great CD/MP3/Radio walkman. The CD playing is of best quality.
However the background noise can not be eliminated.
Highly recommend. It works great and it takes only 1 AA battery that definitely gets a lot of time. I use a headset unless I'm in an enclosed area near others and I have used the ear buds with great success. This is a great CD player and radio. I use this to knit and listen to books. Also, the ear buds that come with it work really well.
I got the first years ago, and it finally fell apart after years of play, hours every single day. Fortunately, I had my old ATRAC disc from the first one and it still works great. Then I got another for my daughter. The model number is the same. I used it so much, the silver finish wore off. It looks just like this one. My first one had been dropped, stepped on, flung across the car (before I put a CD player in my car), and otherwise abused. So when I started looking to replace mine, I had no other thought than to get another Sonly ATRAC.
I can put a whole group of, or specific genre of music on one disc. The little black piece that holds the CD on came off. It just kept on playing and rarely, if ever, even skipped. The ATRAC software is very easy to use. That way if I'm in the mood for Jazz, or chill, or what ever, I can take a whole slew of music with me, without taking my precious CD library out into the cold, harsh world.
I remember one time, on a particularly curvy road through the mountains, it was flung off of the seat onto the floor and just sat there, playing as though nothing had happened, until I could retrieve it.On this one, the TV reception is good and the radio is good. I couldn't stand the sound quality. I got it through one of the Amazon stores for under $50.00, brand new. Unfortunately, I had difficulty downloading the software (I'm not the best at this sort of thing, so it is probably just me). That said.I do love the thing. So, if you can, skip the cheapo discount store offerings and get this. Even then, I pushed it back on occasionally and used it for months until it finally just wouldn't stay on.
Unfortunately, mine was stolen. So why the ridiculous, inexplicable, plain ol' wrong spike in price. So I borrowed one of the kids cheapos for awhile. You won't be disappointed. You'll actually be able to hear music the way the musicians and producers intended. I got one of these for myself many months ago. This is my second Sony ATRAC.
Unfortunately, the weather radio has a very limited channel listing, and in our remote area picks up nothing.
